Lasting approximately five weeks, all lanes of the westbound Northern State Parkway between Exits 33 (Wantagh State Parkway) and 31A (Meadowbrook State Parkway) will be closed in Westbury, according to the New York State Department of Transportation.

From 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. one lane will be closed; then starting at 10 p.m. and lasting until 5 a.m., all lanes will be closed. The project began on Monday, Oct. 23.

The closures, which are weather permitting, will allow for a pavement resurfacing project.

Drivers traveling during the closure period will be encouraged to follow signed detours at Exits 35N and 34 for access to the Long Island Expressway.

Additionally, transportation officials encouraged motorists to drive carefully, as fines are doubled for speeding in work zones.
